About the "Solar Family"

The "Solar Family" started as a reunion party for my coworkers at AEE Solar in Humboldt County, CA. It quickly grew into the Solar Pioneer Parties that occurred in 2015, 2016 and 2017 which led to the creation of the documentary film, "Solar Roots - The Pioneers of PV" which tells the story of the birth of the PV industry.

In 2018 the Solar Family Reunion was started as a way to continue this annual gathering of solar pioneers and solar pros young and old to celebrate the success of renewables, while preserving the unique culture of this pioneering industry. As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are moving to monthly online meetings called the "Solar Family Zoom"  to continue to provide a social gathering place for that allows for socializing with fellow solar enthusiasts in a non-commercial environment. In additional to the Solar Family Zoom meetings, you can join the "Solar Pioneers" Facebook group. The Solar Pioneers Facebook group helps preserve the rich history and culture of the PV industry with members posting photos and stories of the early days of PV to help expand the knowledge and history of this incredible group of solar pioneers and solar pros.

We hope you will join us for our Zoom meetings by registering at the link above.

Solar Pioneers forever!

Solar Family Zoom Rules

Due to the size of the web meeting, we have recruited a team of Co-Hosts that will be helping manage the event. Here are some key points to know about...

  • Please be respectful to others.

  • This is a non-commercial event and is not a platform for selling products or services. Anyone who attempts to use the platform for selling anything will be asked to stop, and if necessary removed from the meeting.

  • Administering an online meeting with dozens (or hundreds) of participants can be an audio challenge, so WE ASK EVERYONE TO MUTE THEIR MICROPHONES whenever they are not speaking.

    • If you fail to mute your microphone and it is causing audio problems, one of our meeting administrators may have to mute your mic, and you may not be able to unmute yourself. You have been forewarned!

  • The breakout rooms offer group socializing where you can be heard and seen (if you have your webcam turned on). Solar Family Breakout Rooms allow for one-on -one socializing and a wonderful friendly & fun atmosphere where you can see old friends and make new ones.

  • We have a full 30 minutes of breakout rooms at the start with a free flowing atmosphere. We will also conduct 10 person breakout rooms after the regularly scheduled meetings. This allows ample time for connecting with your friends.
